Time-of-Use (TOU) Electric Rate
Enrollment Application
Time-of-use (TOU) electric rates give you the opportunity to reduce your electric bills by shifting the time of day when you use the majority of your electricity. It is more expensive for MGE to provide electricity on-peak – when demand for electricity is high. Through our TOU rate, when you shift the majority of your usage during low electric demand – known as off-peak times – you are able to save on your electric bills.

Important program details:
  • When you enroll in TOU rates, you must stay on TOU rates for at least 12 months. After 12 months, you may shift back to the standard rate.
  • When you opt into TOU, if you do not already have an automated electric meter, MGE will install one at no extra charge.
  • MGE business customers with a demand greater than 20 kW must be served on TOU rates. TOU rates are optional for all other customers.

To enroll, please complete the following information:
Enter service address starting with house number and including any unit number (e.g. 623 Railroad St. 101).

To enroll in the time-of-use (TOU) electric rate, you must agree to the below Terms and Conditions:

TIME-OF-USE OPTIONAL RATE AGREEMENT

I hereby request Madison Gas and Electric Company to serve the service address listed above on the optional time-of-use (TOU) electric rate schedule. Upon choosing to be served on this rate schedule, I hereby waive all rights to any billing adjustments arising from a claim that the bill for service would be cheaper on any alternative rate scheduled for any period of time.

I have read all of the provisions set forth on the rate schedule(s) for which I am applying. I understand that the rate schedule will apply for a minimum of one year from the date consumption under the tariff (rate schedule) is initiated.

Automated meter reading equipment allows MGE to read the remotely from the street. However, if MGE is unable to read the meter remotely and the meter is inaccessible, I agree to allow MGE access during the normal course of reading meters.

Finally, I also understand that the optional time-of-use rates will begin with the first full billing period after the installation of the time-of-use meter and that the actual rates shown on the rate schedule may change by order of the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin at any time.
